BEVERLEY MAHOOD
Beverley Mahood is truly one Canada's most dynamic entertainers today. Mahood has been building her profile in the country music scene, throughout Canada and the United States, since her debut CD, Girl Out of The Ordinary was released in 1998. This CD garnered 7 Top 10 Hit radio singles, a #1 video, numerous awards and much recognition. This quick success surprised few as Beverley had long blazed a trail of musical achievement since she arrived in Canada, from Northern Ireland, at the age of 6. Contest wins as a teenager and stage performances with George Jones and Anne Murray were early indicators of her strong future in country music.
Of her music, Beverley says, "I have my own style and would like to be considered a strong woman with something intelligent to say and a heartfelt sound".
Since that debut CD, Beverley has blazed a path as a multi dimensional talent - singer, songwriter, actress and TV host. She won over renowned Los Angeles producer, David Foster, producer of such artists as Celine Dion, Michael Buble and Josh Grobin. With David, Beverley developed the female trio, Lace, releasing an award winning CD, Lace, in 1999. This CD delivered the #1 song, "I Want A Man," and led to three years of constant touring in the United States and Canada.
In 2004, Beverley released another solo CD, Moody Blue, which yielded another #1 song and Video for the single, "The First Day You Wake up Alone." Beverley believes everything in music starts with the song and with this in mind she approaches her songwriting with great passion. She has always penned her own songs including co-writing the hit single, "Come to Me," performed by Celine Dion on her 2005 Miracle record. This song gained hit status around the world and gave Beverley excellent recognition as a songwriter.
Add this to her work as an actress in "The Vagina Monologues," "Heartthrobs," "Castle Rocks" (Young Peoples Theatre), a year hosting Breakfast TV for CITYTV (Vancouver) and the vast entertainment scope of Beverley Mahood becomes most evident.
In the fall of 2005, Beverley began hosting the National TV show, CMT Central, for Country Music Television (CMT). This has afforded her the opportunity to look at the industry and music through the eyes of the fan. "It has altered my perspective on what fans care to see on stage and hear in their music. Interviewing other artists at CMT, instead of being interviewed brought me closer to what people really care about."
Beverley released her final Lace single, "Can You Handle It" in June 2006. "It's time to focus on songwriting and my solo career, my true artistic loves," says Beverley. Recently, Beverley also contributed her skills and image for the 2006 Bootlegger Jean Spring Print Campaign with her image appearing in stores across North America.
Next up from Beverley; the new CD to be released in early 2007 with new songs penned with Randy Bachman, Dan Hill, along with long time writing partner Thomas Wade and other collaborators. Two new TV shows hit the air with Beverley hosting both. "The Ultimate" will air Primetime Fridays on Country Music Television while "Project Dad" will begin airing in January 2007.
This is excellent progress for Mahood who, "Regardless of what the future holds, will continue to live all her dreams in colour".
