HOODED FANG

In the winter of 2008, six friends, roommates, and lovers decided to start playing music together. Inspired by Canadian literary genius Mordecai Richler - and undeterred by their lack of formal training or the fact that "Barney’s Version" is a shitty name for a band - they settled on Hooded Fang. In the one year since their first concert on the tiny stage of a friend’s family bar, they’ve released a self-produced EP, caught the attention of local fans and media, and played bigger and better shows, including a Pop Montreal and Canadian Music Week showcases, and opening slots for the Born Ruffians, Bishop Allen and Malajube.

Their self-titled EP was released in June 2008 after a frantic two-week period of recording and mixing in various basements and attics across Toronto. Produced by principal songwriter Daniel Lee, the five song album offers a taste of what the band’s best at: shamelessly plundering all musical genres in the service of crafting the perfect pop tune. With full harmonies, rotating singers, and instrumentation that changes with each song, Hooded Fang can sound like The Cure at their least gloomy or Herman Düne armed with synths and a trombone.
