Eric's Trip

Paquin proudly and nostalgically welcomes champions of "lo-fi" music, Eric's Trip, to its roster.

Kronos Quartet Finds "Hendrix" in Tagaq
KRONOS QUARTET FINDS "HENDRIX" IN TAGAQ
Grammy-winning string ensemble, Kronos Quartet, first broke into the scene with their rendition of Jimi Hendrix's psychedelic classic Purple Haze. Known for their appreciation of musical diversity, they have collaborated with artists such as Bollywood playback singer, Asha Bhosle, Brazilian electronica artist, Amon Tobin and contemporary icons Tom Waits, David Bowie and Björk, among others.
Kronos Quartet founding member, Dave Harrington, came across the otherworldly sound of Nunavut throat singer Tagaq in 2006 and was stunned by her talent. And so, a remarkable collective was born. Their latest release, Tundra Songs made its Canadian debut at the Toronto Luminato Arts Festival in June, where they performed selections from the new CD. "[Tagaq] riffs with her elastic vocal cords the way Hendrix did with a Stratocaster. Her aural acrobatics have reshaped an Inuit pastime into the stuff of concert-hall virtuosity," describes writer, Martin Morrow (CBC).
Tagaq's new solo album, Auk ("Blood") is due out this summer.

FEATURED ARTIST: ELLIOTT BROOD
Elliott Brood have been on the road for nearly three solid years with an impeccable live show to boot. Using their always-packed gigs to test drive a selection of new material, the time has come; fans can finally take home the self-described sound of 'death-country.' Elliott Brood previewed their latest effort, Mountain Meadows (Six Shooter), at Toronto's legendary live venue, the Horseshoe Tavern, on June 20th and 21st. The rest of their year consists of a packed festival schedule and a fall tour in Canada and Europe that would make fellow road warriors proud.
Poetically described by Echo Weekly, Elliott Brood's music is filled with myth-laden lyrics of death, historical figures, lost love, haunting melodies and heavily rhythmic percussion. The band's unique sound has garnered them much critical acclaim, including a Juno nomination, headlining Exclaim's "Wood, Wires & Whiskey" tour and supporting Wilco and Blue Rodeo, among many others.
Mountain Meadows is available in stores now.

C.R. Avery
"Imagine if Neil Young was inspired by hip-hop, and there you have C.R. Avery" (Vancouver Sun). Described as a one man hip-hop beatbox blues harmonica americana iconoclast by CBC Radio 3, C.R. Avery is no stranger to the music industry. He has 10 albums under his belt, including his latest, Chain Smoking Blues (Bongo Beat), and has toured all over the world. C.R.'s fans include Tom Waits, Ani DiFranco and The Be Good Tanyas.
Eric's Trip
Who would have thought 12 years after breaking up, Canadian music scene underground favourites, Eric's Trip, would reunite in 2008. Described as champions of the "lo-fi" sound, they were the first Canadian band to be signed to famed label, Seattle's Sub Pop, where they released three albums, Purple Blue, Love Tara and Forever Again.
Jaydee Bixby
Raised in a home of dedicated musicians, 17-year-old Canadian Idol finalist Jaydee Bixby has been described by legendary crooner, Paul Anka, as having "the type of talent that will keep him around for decades to come." The singer, with his velvety voice and hip-swaggering Presley-esque stage manner, is preparing to launch his debut album, Cowboys and Cadillacs (HRM Records/Fontana North), on July 8.
C.R. Avery On the Road With Britain's National Treasure
C.R. AVERY ON THE ROAD WITH BRITAIN'S NATIONAL TREASURE
Multi-faceted. Multi-talented. However you want to slice it, C.R. Avery is a man with a whole gamut of creative tricks up his sleeve. Hailing from Vancouver, C.R. is an internationally-acclaimed slam poet, the author of four hip hop operas, as well as a one-man band, who simultaneously sings, beat-boxes, plays the harmonica and the keys.
In the month of June, C.R. Avery traveled across North America, with stops in Vancouver, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto and Montreal, with the man that The Times newspaper recently described as a "national treasure," Billy Bragg. With a career that has spanned over 20 years, Billy Bragg is regarded as the stalwart guardian of the radical dissenting tradition that stretches back over centuries of the country's political, cultural and social history.
Just in time for the hottest time of the year, C.R. Avery will be working up a sweat on this year's festival circuit.
