| FEATURED ARTIST: K'NAAN |
Released on February 24, K'NAAN's newest album, Troubadour, debuted as one of the Top 10 Albums on iTunes US and at #2 on iTunes Canada! His critically-acclaimed sophomore album is a winding walk through beautiful memories of Somalia that has been hailed as the work of a "lithe and nimble rapper" (The New York Times) and "a universal soldier, not an exotic novelty" (Blender).
Raised in Somalia in the midst of a merciless civil war, K'NAAN lost friends and his innocence on the streets of Mogadishu before his family left for the US. He learned English from listening to rap while living in New York and settled in Toronto. Two years after the release of his debut album, The Dusty Foot Philosopher, K'NAAN was recording Troubadour at Bob Marley's home by invitation of the Marley family.
K'NAAN finished the last leg of his Canadian tour by playing to a sold out crowd at the Commodore Ballroom with Esthero as part of the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad.

Congratulations to Buffy Sainte-Marie whose whip-lash collection of power and beauty, Running for the Drum, took home Aboriginal Album of the Year. Buffy Sainte-Marie was also the subject of Gilles Paquin's JUNO-nominated documentary, Buffy Sainte-Marie: A Multimedia Life, a touching and personal biography of the enduring and legendary icon. Serena Ryder was lauded as well, following up her gold album If Your Memory Serves You Well and 2008 JUNO for Best New Artist by winning Adult Alternative Album of the Year and being nominated for Artist of the Year.

Black Diamond Bay
It's not every day that the raw sounds of a newly formed band will lure a producer like David Schiffman (Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers), but for Black Diamond Bay that's where Calm Awaits, released on March 31st, begins.
Bruce Peninsula
The elaborate structure of these spiritual-prog-folk rockers' sound is something to be reckoned with, and their recent release The Mountain is a Mouth was an obsessive and triumphant mission for the ever changing and expanding band.
Bryce Pallister
Bryce Pallister is a classically trained singer with a country sound and a new CD, Ready to Go, which features Murray Pulver of Doc Walker and Stephen Carroll of The Weakerthans.
The Celtic Tenors
As one of the most successful crossover artists to emerge from Ireland, this trio has won the hearts of fans with their eclectic mix of classical, folk, Irish and pop.
Deep Dark Woods
The Deep Dark Woods echo with warm harmonies from well within the shadowy side of roots music, and being nominated for Best Roots Album at the Western Canadian Music Awards confirms what fans already know: their talent is haunting.
Dorothy the Dinosaur
This smash hit television show, seen in over 21 countries around the world, is now live on stage, brought to you by part of the creative team behind "The Wiggles."
The Good Lovelies
Sharp, sassy, funny and armed with a pile of instruments, The Good Lovelies flaunt a repertoire of sophisticated songs and describe their sound as "flirty-bluegrass." They will be touring their recently released self-titled album this summer.
Howie Beck
Called "The Woody Allen of Rock", his latest album How To Fall Down led him to much more than its title suggests - namely to open for Nada Surf, providing his signature sound to television shows such as One Tree Hill and recording at Studio Ferber in Paris.
Japandroids
B.C. based duo Japandroids aren't minimal - they're maximal. They run the gauntlet of rock 'n' roll sub-genres, and make enough music for a five-piece band. They call it garage rock. You can call them your new favourite two-piece.
Jenn Grant
Jenn Grant embodies the naked melancholy of roots and the shimmering effervescence of vintage AM pop. Her analogue heart is beating strong on her newest album, Echoes.
United Steel Workers of Montreal
Wowing audiences from coast to coast with their unique brand of blue-collar alt-country, the six-piece's new album, Three for the Tree, sees the band experiment with gospel, historical ballads, Spanish horns and premonitions of death.
VitaminsForYou
VitaminsForYou has been called a "programming genius" (Exclaim) and the reaction to his new album, He closed his eyes so he could dance with you, is even more evidence of that genius. VitaminsForYou is on a Western Canadian tour through April.
Wassabi Collective
When your front man (in this case, lady) wins the BIMA Female Performer of the Year award, you're doing something right. The band's head-bopping hooks and tasty pockets of funk backs that up.

| INTERNATIONAL SIGNING SUCCESS |
Between Buffy-Sainte Marie and Corb Lund, this spring Paquin's artists are spreading their sound across the world, from Australia to Norway.
Canadian icon Buffy Sainte-Marie has signed on with UK record label Cooking Vinyl and with Socadisc in France to release her highly-anticipated 18th studio album, Running for the Drum. Up until now, Buffy's critically-acclaimed album has only been available in Canada. These international releases will decidedly place the world at her feet as she prepares for stops in Montreal, New York and London on her summer tour.
Fresh off his Australian tour, Corb Lund has signed on as the newest addition to New West Records. As a songwriter responsible for our ongoing romance with the Canadian West, the deal is a perfect fit. New West Records boasts a number of Grammy® award-winning artists including Dwight Yoakam and Steve Earle. Currently, Corb Lund is working on his new album with famed producer Harry Stinson.
