About
Four years after the release of Human Nature, a tour of more than 100 sold-out shows and a nomination at the 2020 ADISQ Gala in the “Album of the Year – Folk” category, Alexandre Poulin is back with "La Somme des êtres aimés" . On this sixth album, he opens up to a more organic musical universe full of nostalgia. A more sung personal research and an exploration of sounds inspired by the 70s (twelve-string guitars, pianos, flutes) combined with vocal harmonies give new life to his texts. Always at the heart of his creation is his very personal way of telling us stories in a few minutes.
At the same time poet, philosopher, storyteller and in another life a professor, the singer-songwriter Alexandre Poulin is a plural artist with a singular destiny, far removed from the mediated and well-defined paths. This desire to remain true to himself and to his way of telling stories takes on its full scope in a show, which has earned him an audience of unconditional fans as well as a multitude of prizes collected both in Quebec and in Europe. In 2008, his first self-titled album received rave reviews, in addition to a first nomination at the ADISQ Gala and a prominent place in the radio charts throughout Quebec. The generational questions and portraits he paints then find echo as far as Europe, while the tour of his second album Une Lumière Illuminate (2010) is played with more than 150 performances. Rooted in folk, this opus will allow Alexandre Poulin to take his personal style a little further, both musically and in terms of the texts, often constructed like little stories without a chorus which make the mark of the author . Building on these three years spent on the road, Alexandre Poulin then co-produced Le Mouvement des tides (2013), a third album oscillating between folk and songs with lyrics where he tells the story of humanity in a way that is both sensitive and lucid. In France, the reception of the album was such that it earned him an invitation to the television show On n’est pas couch and other prestigious venues. Then, it was in the heart of winter and in the middle of the forest that his fourth album Les Temps sauvage (2016) was released. Its success was not long in coming: an “Album of the Year – Folk” nomination at the 2017 ADISQ Gala and more than 100 sold-out shows. Three years later, Human Nature (2019) allows Alexandre Poulin to explore with accuracy and curiosity what makes up our deep nature.
