About
Dom Louis is always writing songs. He was born and raised in Toronto and began his musical career in his early twenties. Over the last few years, Dom has carved his name into the music scene in Ontario and beyond. The self-titled Dom Louis LP is set to be released on April 14, 2023, with support from Super Sport Records.
Dom’s first EP entitled Everything Must Come Around is an eclectic mix of songs. It proved his ability to cover a lot of ground –from the driven singer/songwriter sound of “Dream On My Baby” (reminiscent of an Allman Brother’s jam) to “Give It If You Got It,” which leans 90s alternative radio. It was a great place to start, but Dom’s got a more cohesive vision in mind. “The first EP was sort of all over the place,” he explained. “These new songs are a better representation of who I am as an artist.” He points to The Lumineers, Mumford and Sons, and the bare bones sound of the early Caamp records for direct inspiration.
Long before Dom’s first EP was properly released, Evan Westfall, a founding member of Caamp and the owner of Super Sport, was listening. “I used to dig up songs for inspiration on YouTube,” Westfall explained. “I stumbled upon a demo of ‘Dream On My Baby,’ and I really loved it.” Even after Dom had removed the song from YouTube in preparation for a more proper release, Evan thought of it from time to time. “Sometime during 2020, I checked Spotify on a whim, and I found him. I sent him an email, and we started talking.” Evan agreed to produce and contribute to Dom’s new album with help from his bandmate Matt Vinson (Caamp, The Wonderfool).
Most of the songs were recorded at Vinson’s home studio in the latter half of 2022. The workflow was different from what Dom was used to, but it was a welcome adjustment. “Their process was far faster than how I used to work. We got the whole album done in just a few months,” he shared. “At least five or six songs came out of the first session, so all the songs are from the same time, the same sources of inspiration.” After a few weekend sessions in Ohio, Dom returned to Toronto and wrapped up the album with longtime friend Myles Rogers.
Stream the album on April 14th and stay tuned for small batches of lathe-cut 45s and cassettes from Super Sport Records.
