Elliot Maginot

Known for his poignant voice, unlike any other, Elliot Maginot traces his path by constantly redefining the boundaries of his musical universe. Master of atmospheres, he magnifies melancholy and distills emotions with assumed vulnerability. Picking up his work of sonic exploration where he left off with Easy Morning, he found Connor Seidel in the studio to record I Need to Stay Here, a fourth enveloping offering rich in instrumentation (piano, fiddle, cello, mandoloncello, pedal steel, guitar, clarinet, French horn, flute, saxophone, drums, bass…) The release of this album in March 2024 will also mark the launch of a new tour of shows.

Self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Elliot Maginot became known in 2013 with a folk-inspired EP posted on MySpace. Two years later, he landed a record deal and released Young/Old/Everything.In.Between, a debut album produced by Jace Lasek (Besnard Lakes, Suuns). This collection of songs with folk, pop and rock sounds is enriched with soaring atmospheres. As soon as this opus was released, Elliot Maginot stormed the stages of the province including several renowned events (Montreal International Jazz Festival, Quebec Summer Festival, etc.) He also toured elsewhere in Canada, in California and until Australia. There are also solo shows opening for the Boulay Sisters and Cœur de Pirate. It is with the latter that he performs in Europe (France, Austria, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg). After traveling several thousand kilometers and offering more than 200 performances, Elliot Maginot joined Audiogram in 2018 where he published Comrades. Produced by Connor Seidel (Charlotte Cardin, Half Moon Run, Les Sœurs Boulay), the sound of this album is intended to be richer, more organic, serving as a support for a subject which sees the singer-songwriter observing the world that l surrounds and wonders about the distress and uneasiness of his generation. Between two shows, he covers the song Allô Maman Bobo popularized by Alain Souchon and receives a nomination in the “Show of the Year – Anglophone” category at the 2019 ADISQ Gala. In 2021, Elliot Maginot returns to the forefront with Easy Morning, an acoustic album co-produced with Connor Seidel which combines softness of strings, warmth of brass and West African sounds. Selected from the long list of the Polaris Music Prize, the project also stands out with two nominations during the 2022 edition of the ADISQ Gala (“Album of the Year – Anglophone” and “Show of the Year – Anglophone”). A self-proclaimed lover of the holiday season, the singer-songwriter expands his Christmas repertoire each year. We owe him: Christmas Ain’t Enough (2018), I’ll Know My Savior (Christmas All Around) (2019), The Ballad of Mrs. Claus (2021), Christmas on My Mind (2022) and a magnificent cover of Marie-Noël (2023), another classic popularized by Robert Charlebois.
