K’naan is a musician and writer originally from Somalia. K’naan migrated from Mogadishu as a 12 year old just as the country was descending into chaos.

After a ten + year hiatus from music, K’naan’s latest song “Refugee” has been awarded the Grammy for 2024’s “Best Song for Social Change.” His past music work has earned him several major awards including a VMA, 4 Juno Awards as well as the number 1 spot in 19 countries when his song Wavin’Flag became a theme song for the 2010 World Cup.

His essays have appeared in the New York Times and he is currently working on several projects across varied disciplines.
